Tropical Energy Code

Mr. Howard Wiig from the State of Hawaii, Department of Business Economic Development & Tourism conducted the Tropical Energy Codes Workshop on September 29, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency hotel. Mr. Wiig has been with the State of Hawaii Energy Office for over 30 years and has a number of programs, including many generations of building energy codes and successfully applied for a Tropical Codes grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to create a code unique to the climates of the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, CNMI, Guam and Hawaii.
The CNMI is the first to adopt the “Tropical Energy Code” and is looking forward to implementation of the energy code but more education and public awareness will be made on the energy code to the community first before enforcement is enacted.
