The Department of Public Works/Energy Division gave away two (2) free Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFL’s) on Friday, January 15, 2010    at the Commonwealth Utility Corporation from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm to utility customer as part of their “Energy Star” Awareness Project”

6th Annual Energy Fair

The CNMI’s Energy Division took part in the 6th Annual Energy Fair, sponsored by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Residential Energy Assistance Challenge (REACh) and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) on October 31, 2009 at the Garapan Fishing Base. The event drew the attendance of over 10 vendors promoting alternative power sources, energy savings technology, refrigeration and air conditioning, along with other energy efficient products. Despite the heavy rains encountered, the event was successful in drawing the participation of many of the CNMI’s residents.

Tropical Energy Code

Mr. Howard Wiig from the State of Hawaii, Department of Business Economic Development & Tourism conducted the Tropical Energy Codes Workshop on September 29, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency hotel. Mr. Wiig has been with the State of Hawaii Energy Office for over 30 years and has a number of programs, including many generations of building energy codes and successfully applied for a Tropical Codes grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to create a code unique to the climates of the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, CNMI, Guam and Hawaii.
